second [video/action for Cherrygrove/Route 29]

[There's been more than enough time for Ziva to make it to the next town, but she hasn't gotten any farther. She seems to be busy with her Mawile, on Route 29 just outside of Cherrygrove City.]

Eli. That attack is not working on most of what we have encountered so far. Can you not do something else.

[Of course he can't--the Mawile shakes his head. All he's got is Astonish. Ziva sighs.]

You have that mouth. Can you not simply...bite? You do it while eating, simply face your opponent and...chew.

Maaaa...

You have got to be kidding. I named you for my father, but I think at this point he would be embarrassed rather than flattered.

[The grass rustles nearby, and Ziva turns in that direction.]

Let us try this again.

[She commands Eli forward, and this time she's battling a Shinx. Which she's obviously never seen before. Fantastic. She doesn't really expect Astonish to hit, the ghost-type move hasn't done anything to the normal types they've run into so far. But...it actually works. Huh.]

[ooc: Responses will be after she catches herself a Shinx. :3]

Apparently you can teach it to do something different, but only through whacking it in the head with some kind of a special disk they sell in the store here.

Learning through percussive osmosis. Isn't that a novel idea.

[Clearly Gibbs would be a POKEMON MASTER. At least when it comes to using TMs.

Also, Tony...she named the chompy thing Eli and he doubts she's talking about a new addition to the team, considering the length of time she could've possibly had it and the tone of the statement — and oh, yes, Tony was the name of one of the coworkers she rattled off. The movie one. Okay.

YES, HE REMEMBERS.]

The thickheaded ones always take extra effort. And some are just outright hopeless.

[Cough cough Deputy Andy Brennan cough.]

You made it through the dark woods okay.

[This is because he is awesome. Also dammit, Ziva, this is his vague Alberty way of insinuating that you are a bro and he is therefore glad you're not dead or potentially eaten by bears.]

You heading in to town now, though?

Better than playing Rambo in the woods for a week.

[He is poking at his Gear a little bit now, though.]

You named him after your father?

[Hmmmm.]

So you're on pretty good terms with it, I'm guessing.

[Hmmmmmm. Schemin' wheels are turning in his brain.]

When you get back in to town, grab one of the computers in the Center and give me a call back. I want to try something.

[Now is the time for SCIENCE.]

[Fifteen minutes is plenty of time for Albert to leave work (conveniently, in the Goldenrod Pokemon Center himself), truck over to the department store, snoop around, and walk back. So when his phone rings, he's back in the vicinity of the computer, too.]

Hello?
worktodo: (GESTURE ☮ eyes over here dumbass)

[personal profile] worktodo 2012-10-21 09:47 pm (UTC)(link)
[Excellent. Someone he's not entirely averse to hearing from.]

Okay. Apparently there's some kind of Star Trek way of sending things through these computers. I'm going to try to figure out how to teleport something over to you, and you let me know if and when you've got it. Okay?

[What ensues from here is an epic battle of 1989 Man versus Implausible Pokeymans Machine, but after a false start or two and some creative button-pushing, Albert finally succeeds in figuring out how the hell to make a computer transfer a TM from one city to another. Pushing the "send" button and watching it disappear is utterly satisfying.]

It's on the way. So either it's vaporized, a mass of particles drifting somewhere in the ether, or about to show up in front of you any second now.

It came through.

[He is actually kind of unsure whether to be surprised, impressed, or just generally disbelieving. And possibly a little bit disgusted because of course they'd have magic teleportation machines here, of course they would. They have rabbits that can spit fire, why not?]

In one piece?

Keep it. Whack your thing in the head with it, it might make him a little smarter.

[Ulterior motive, what ulterior motive. Besides, TM27's well suited to this kind of thing - reasonably cheap as TMs go, any Pokemon can learn it, and Return works based on friendship — so the better she gets along with the thing, the better it'll be at helping her out in exchange. Not half bad.

Also, unlike her critter's existing movepool, it'll actually hit some damn Normal types.]

Or it might not. I've never used one before.

[personal profile] worktodo 2012-10-22 01:07 am (UTC)(link)
[Well, admittedly he was legit about never having used the computer systems before, and frankly he's pretty curious about investigating whether or not the TMs live up to their reputation, too. So it's not wholly altruistic. There's at least some personal benefit.

There is also, admittedly, a certain amount of stock put in the belief that federal agents take care of their own.]

Don't mention it unless it works.

[Really. Don't.]

Damn. They really are one-use.

[Well, that's one way of making a ton of money off the things — force people to buy them again and again.]

Looks like it perked him up, though.
