second [video/action for Cherrygrove/Route 29]
[There's been more than enough time for Ziva to make it to the next town, but she hasn't gotten any farther. She seems to be busy with her Mawile, on Route 29 just outside of Cherrygrove City.]
Eli. That attack is not working on most of what we have encountered so far. Can you not do something else.
[Of course he can't--the Mawile shakes his head. All he's got is Astonish. Ziva sighs.]
You have that mouth. Can you not simply...bite? You do it while eating, simply face your opponent and...chew.
Maaaa...
You have got to be kidding. I named you for my father, but I think at this point he would be embarrassed rather than flattered.
[The grass rustles nearby, and Ziva turns in that direction.]
Let us try this again.
[She commands Eli forward, and this time she's battling a Shinx. Which she's obviously never seen before. Fantastic. She doesn't really expect Astonish to hit, the ghost-type move hasn't done anything to the normal types they've run into so far. But...it actually works. Huh.]
[ooc: Responses will be after she catches herself a Shinx. :3]

[He's looking pretty windswept, but he's bunkered down inside, now. Tut tut, looks like rain, and all that.]
Where are you guys now, anyway? You still doing okay?
no subject
It is simply...frustrating that he cannot do something that, logically, he should have no problem doing.
[Like biting or tackling things. But he doesn't learn Bite until level 11 and Tackle not at all.]
We arrived in Cherrygrove a week ago. I wished to spend some time working and gathering supplies, but we are fine.

I understand. Until yesterday, most of my flying pokemon weren't able to carry me, even if they were big enough. Now that they've learned the move Fly, they have no problem at all.
[Johto's weird like that, sorry.]
That's good... And that's probably a good idea. I had to learn the hard way that getting by without money or supplies in this world isn't fun.

These rules are bizarre.
[Way to state the obvious girl.]
How did you 'get by' at first?
[Her head is tilted slightly, she's honestly curious. You look underage after all--you shouldn't really have to take care of yourself, should you?]
no subject
[...Gee, this is slightly embarrassing.]
I...had help. You, and two others--Kate and Abby--were already taking care of my friend Toothless when I arrived, so I kind of, er, tagged along. [And mooched into oblivion.] After you left, I stayed with the Other Father at his place in Goldenrod City.
[You know, to further mooch until he could get back on his feet while he still had them both.]

[ like he should get out his Dex and check, but that's THE EASY way of doing things. ]

[Whatever that means. Just because she knows the lingo doesn't mean she understands it yet.]

I thought most Steel-types were all... Metal-y.

Learning through percussive osmosis. Isn't that a novel idea.

It hasn't seemed to work on Tony so far. Perhaps he needs to be slapped harder.
[She's on her way to the Pokemon center as he speaks--her new addition needs a visit.]
no subject
Also, Tony...she named the chompy thing Eli and he doubts she's talking about a new addition to the team, considering the length of time she could've possibly had it and the tone of the statement — and oh, yes, Tony was the name of one of the coworkers she rattled off. The movie one. Okay.
YES, HE REMEMBERS.]
The thickheaded ones always take extra effort. And some are just outright hopeless.
[Cough cough Deputy Andy Brennan cough.]
You made it through the dark woods okay.
no subject
[Nope, she hasn't named the Shinx yet. YOUR REMEMBERING IS CORRECT.]
I have had plenty of practice.
[Shrug. Her dad took her and her sister out to the woods when they were kids, dropped them off in the middle, and told them to find their way out. 8| she knows what's up.]

[Riku frowns, placing a hand on his hip.]
You'll definitely want to play it safe until he picks up some new moves. The early routes are full of Normal types, and they're completely immune to Ghost moves.
[It doesn't make much sense, but hey. Neither do a lot of things in the Pokémon world.]
video
It is just a slap.
[THIS CONFUSES HER. HOW CAN A SLAP JUST. NOT WORK.]
video
[Sigh. He can understand her reaction completely.]
It's funny because there are other slap attacks that hit them just fine.
video
None of this makes any sense.
[Well, you're from a boring old normal world, Ziva, so...]

video;
[Knows the look of a ghost type move when he sees one.] Wasn't that a ghost type attack? They don't affect Pokémon that are primarily normal type.
video;
[Though why he learns a ghost-type move in the first place is up in the air. Seems really random.]
video;
Miss? The reason that Astonish attack isn't working is that Normal types are immune Ghost attacks. No, it doesn't make a whole lot sense to me either.
[She's an investigator it's her job to make these sorts of connections.]
Why that is the case, or that he cannot do things that he should be able to for what seems to be a completely arbitrary reason...that is what I do not understand.
[Like biting things seriously WHAT ELSE DO YOU HAVE THAT MOUTH FOR.]
Oh, I'm Chris Ramirez.
It is nothing I have experience with.
[Not much video games in her youth, even if she wasn't 'too old for games' when Pokemon came out anyway...]
